Haha, did you think of Colon when Outside the Lines mentioned him a little earlier today talking about stem cell therapy? I definitely went and looked up his numbers and thought about him here for a second.

It's an "investigative" sports "journalism" show on ESPN weekdays at 3:00 p.m. Today was about stem cell therapy and they mentioned Bartolo Colon, at which I was like, "Hmmm, I wonder if that guy is worth a flier FA bid in the faketeams league," then came here and saw your bid. BUT NO, 'twas simply Fat Old Man Kismet, apparently.
My non-bid is more a result of him being a 38-year-old fat bastard than the fact that he drinks dead-baby smoothies in order to keep his wraith-like baseball soul alive, but I think he could prove a decent flier to take this year, especially pitching in Oakland.

I absolutely did employ the phrase "drinks dead-baby smoothies in order to keep his wraith-like baseball soul alive" in reference to a fantasy baseball league. Yep, that was me.

I don't get ESPN in Canada so I have never seen that show.

I thought that American television culture was ubiquitous, and pretty much the only thing that anyone around the world really cared about.

I seriously don't understand how you can guys can deal with ESPN. They show no hockey and waste way too much time on college sports. They've basically made a monopoly of sports in the US which sucks for viewers.

Agreed, the various league-owned or team-owned nets are usually better (except YES, here in Brooklyn. Jesus, we get it, the Yankees are the only reason democracy survives in the Western world!), but MLB shows mostly wack junk during the day in the offseason, NFL is only on DirecTV (which my roommates object to for some reason), and NBA and NHL are...well...vastly inferior sports.
Intentional Talk and Hot Stove (and MLB Tonight during the season) are what make life worth living, but let's not let the fact that ESPN sucks keep us from remembering that without ESPN, we wouldn't even have 1/1000th of the current state of televised sports/analysis/garbage that we now have. WITHOUT ESPN, YOU PROBABLY WOULDN'T EVEN KNOW WHO WOODY PAIGE IS. THINK ABOUT THAT.

Also, this is the best FA bidding thread there ever could be.

Aww, booo, relegated to the practice squad. See how many pageviews Bartolo Colon gets now.

I had to, Didn't want to make it seem like there was tons of bids on a guy if there really wasn't.

MLB Network is either completely awesome or the worst thing ever. The other day I was watching Hot Stove and this commercial came on: "Coming up next, the 9 best nicknames in baseball history, followed by the 9 best nicknames related to fish in baseball history." Not a joke or exaggeration. So much potential on that network...
