Tcengel, I'm really interested in getting your review of the film once you see it. I loved it, and since you're a die-hard MMA guy I know you'll go crazy over it.
I've got "Field of Dreams" as my #1 sports movie of all time, but I'll probably rank "Warrior" #2 (with "Hoosier" now moved-down to #3)

I watched The Sandlot as a kid and it is without a doubt my favorite sports movie. Major League is a close second though. And yep, Miracle is fantastic I just have a bias towards baseball obviously.
And don't hate on me guys but... I have never seen Field of Dreams :/

I can't believe I let you guys in the league. I should have made a pre-requisite that you had to have seen Field of Dreams to join.

Tcengel, I'm really interested in getting your review of the film once you see it. I loved it, and since you're a die-hard MMA guy I know you'll go crazy over it. Alright, watched it this afternoon. First of all, this may sound stupid, but I was happily surprised that the filmmaker chose to have him break Tom's arm with an omoplata, I didn't think they'd be bold enough to delve into unknown techniques; I was happily surprised. Also, I was happy to see the BJJ (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) fighter win the tournament, I also figured they'd just want stand up and as much violence as possible. As far as the fights went, Brendan's first two opponents are fighters in real life, Anthony Johnson and Nate Marquardt. Happy to see MMA guys casted, and that they didn't suck. I wish they would have used better camera angles for the fights (I'm used to UFC, Bellator and Strikeforce broadcasts, seeing MMA from different angles is kind of brutal.) And also, the whole idea of a guy walking off the street into a gym and knocking out the number one contender is totally idiotic. The baseball equivalent would be me walking into a park and hitting back to back to back bombs off Kershaw. It's totally idiotic. But that's okay, it's a movie. I loved the character of Kabo or whatever his name was, I'm pretty sure he was an allusion to Fedor Emelianenko, that was sick. That's pretty much my thoughts on the fighting part. As far as the movie goes, unbelievable. I loved the way it didn't obsess over the fighting, and that it had story, and spent a lot of time developing characters and their motives and actions. Brilliantly done. Great acting by Joel Edgerton and Tom Hardy, loved every minute of it. Also, Brendan's wife was awesomely played. That's what I got off the top of my head.

Cool, glad you liked it. That movie ruled! Tom Hardy really deserves the Oscar for his work in this....just amazing. I know nothing about MMA so I'm happy that you said the fight scenes were realistic and not classic "over the top Hollywood".
I'm pissed this movie didn't do well in the box office and this diamond got ignored. I think alot of it has to do with the title that sounds too much like some lame Vin Diesel movie.

Yeah, the fights were a little over the top, like... How can I say this. This may be a bit extreme, but it would be like a baseball movie where every game was like this world series' game 6. Fights like that definitely happen, but they are rare.
Edgerton, Hardy, and Nolte were all outstanding, I still can't believe it. Hardy was unbelievable.
I think part of the reason it didn't do well is because it only got released in like 1500 theaters in NA or something like that, whereas most major Hollywood films drop in ~3500.
