Was looking over some of the salary rules and some have been removed. There is no longer a minimum of 2 years required to bid on a player less than 34 years of age. If you placed a bid on a player under 34 for 2 years, you may modify your bid to 1 year if you choose.
There maximum length of contract based on salary has also been removed. You are able to bid a maximum of 5 years on any player regardless of their salary. Once again, if this changes your bid in free agency, you may edit the years, but the AAV should not change.

So we're not just bidding AAV as discussed?

All bids should include the number of years.

I have to say that I am frustrated by this last-second development given what was discussed in the rules thread. I was under the impression that for simplicity's sake we would bid based on AAV and determine length of contract later.

We are still basing the salaries off the highest AAV bid. Adding a year amount to a bid is not a difficult task. If we don't, I guarantee we will all be chasing managers around trying to get them to place a yearly amount on their bids.

No, attaching a year amount to an individual bid is not difficult in and of itself. However, I don't see the benefit to locking people in to contract lengths when that information has no bearing on whether the bid is accepted or not.
In any case, I'm more irked by the last-second nature of the rule changes. I did quite a bit of preparation for the bidding process, and none of it had to do with contract length, because I assumed that it would not be needed until I won a player.
I apologize if this seems pedantic, but I get frustrated when it seems as if the target is constantly moving.

I understand that but rule changes can be made if they need to be and everyone needs to understand that aspect of it. Yes, it's a late change but it's better to start this now then after a whole wack of bids have been made.
Assuming we did just bid AAV, how long would a manager have to select the number of years? What is the probability that everyone is able to abide by those time lines?
