Invalid Bid, he is still considered a prospect. Darvish was a special exemption as we know he is going straight to the majors, while we do not know the same for Cespedes. Once he plays a major league game, he will be available for bidding.

He's the starting centerfielder. Thats why crisp is moving to corner outfield.

Sources have told FOXSports.com that the Athletics intend to start newly signed Cuban defector Yoenis Cespedes in center field right away, which would move Coco Crisp over to left field and Seth Smith to DH.

thats fine with me, im not going to bid on him...but it seems silly to allow darvish to be in free agency if we aren't going to have cespedes. I guess i missed that discussion.

It was specifically discussed, not sure exactly where, but possibly in the MiLB draft thread somewhere, after I said that I was purposefully giving up my last draft spot in the hopes that Darvish, Cespedes, or Soler would be signed before the end of the full draft. I agree with you, Jordan, in principle, that making a special dispensation for Darvish over Cespedes seems arbitrary, but it was definitely discussed well before either of them signed to MLB contracts.
In any case, this at least gives everyone plenty of time to shuffle salary cap space in preparation for Opening Day.
