I play in a keeper league with minor leagues that we use Yahoo for. Once we got comfortable with how it worked, it has been fine for the most part. Basically, we set up the rosters, and kind of self-police to make sure that people don't pick up players they shouldn't be allowed to.
The other thing that we do every year is to post the minor league rosters in the Commissioner's note, so that it is able to be seen on the host site as well.
I know that in Yahoo you can set the database to not include players who have not made their debut, (or something along these lines, not entirely remembering right now) which would be fine for our first year. Generally, their database includes a majority of the top prospects if they are on the 40-man roster of their team. For example, I could have picked up Bryce Harper on the Yahoo site (and take up a roster spot), if he had not been drafted in our minor league draft previously.

Bingo. We use that system in my other dynasty league as well. Works well as long as people pay attention.

Are we seriously going to have a league with minor leaguers and not use CBS? How does it only have 2 votes?
Anyone who has ever used CBS knows it has (by far) the largest database of minor league players than any site. This seems like a no-brainer decision.

You don't need a huge database of minor leaguers. You just need a site that will put them into the system once they make it to the major league.

So we're going to maintain the minor league rosters offline? This makes sense if it were 1987 but not 2011.
Its so much easier to have your complete franchise (majors and minors) on one website page which gives you frequent new updates on all the players. CBS is by far the best......not even close

What updates do you need exactly? By having your minors offline, you can monitor who gets sent up and sent down in a much easier manner.

I just think it makes sense to have everything centralized and automated. One site for both your major and minor leagues (nothing offline)
I'm not sure I understand your offline comment , how can having minors offline possibly be easier to monitor than having your entire franchise (both major and minors) online in one simple page? Its 2011....nothing should be done offline anymore. CBS provides frequent news updates on both major and minor leaguer players, and makes trading major/minor leaguer so much easier (not sure how would we do a trade involving major and minor league players in the "offline" scenario......it just seems so unnecessarily manual).
In the end, I'll go with whatever host site the majority wants. I've tried all the major sites before (CBS, Yahoo, ESPN). If this were a non-keeper league, then I would be all game for ESPN/Yahoo, but for a serious keeper/dynasty league of die-heard owners , than CBS is a no brainer.
I'm curious, is there anyone here who has done a keeper league in CBS before that is actually voting for Yahoo or ESPN?

Wait why exactly do you want the minors on the host site ?
The point of a dynasty is to be accountable for all your transactions- trades, promotions, demotions, signings. Everything would have to go through proboards anyway.

I voted ESPN and have been doing dynasty leagues for over 5 years. My reasons are several:
-It is my understanding that CBS charges $$$ to host even non-prize leagues. Is everyone here willing to shell out yearly membership fees? If they are I'm all for it but I doubt it.
-It is also my understanding that while CBS has the most comprehensive prospect coverage that it is still incomplete. Even if we could all have 38 or 39 of our 40 MLB/milb players all on the same webpage/roster we'd still probably need an offline roster for the players that slip through the cracks at CBS.
-There is nothing stopping us from keeping our full 40 man rosters all on one page for easy searchability/ ability to formulate trade proposals on the proboards site all year round. I hate having to depend on the host site to see my roster if they're doing maintenance etc.
Edit: By "full 40 man rosters" I of course mean our full whatever number rosters. Forgot about the limitless prospect roster size here.

Scott makes most of the relevant points. There is no need to have your minors grouped with your major league squad. It in fact makes it easier if it's not, as other managers can clearly distinguish the different.

Fartballs don't be offended or feel like we're ganging up on you, we're just justifying our choice, as you are yours.
(Find that someone people are a little sensitive here so you never know.)

Oh...my bad.....I guess I didn't read the rules and setting well enough (I kind of skimmed through them). I was under the wrong impression that Proboards was just a temporary thing and that once we found a host (CBS, ESPN, Yahoo) that everything would be done on that site (free agent pickups, messageboard posts, etc). So....sorry for asking a dumb question, but why exactly are we doing thing on Proboards again instead of just letting the host administer it for us? All the major site allow for dollar bidding on free agents.
To dudedudedude, just an FYI, while CBS incorporates your minor league players into your overall franchise page, it creates a separate dedicated section for them so everything can clearly see who's in the major and who's in the minors.
Hey Rocky.....don't worry, I'm cool. Not offended.

As a poor college student, I would of course prefer to not pay money, but as long as it's not like $100 a person, I'd be ok with whatever.

Don't worry about that, I would have told people in advance if they would have to pay.
It's more complicated than that fartballs. There's contract lengths, specific waivers rules ect. that the sites aren't able to keep track of.

Just an FYI, both ESPN and Yahoo open-up their 2012 fantasy baseball sites on Tuesday 2/7.
