Seen Cardenas play a bunch. I live in Sacramento, where he spent last season. Cardenas seems like a nice guy, but in terms of prospect status it seems a bit murky for him.
They played him all over the place, but it seemed like they didn't really like him anywhere on the field. He seemed to be used mostly as a 2B prior to 2011, but with Jemile Weeks at 2B in Oakland, I'm not sure where he ends up playing. He played a fair amount of left field too, but that seemed to be more because the team had like 6 or 7 solid infielders, but just 2 or 3 outfielders at a given time.
Unless his bat shows something a bit different, I'm not sure he'd hit enough to play everyday either in LF or at 3B. Maybe a super-utility type? I haven't seen him play SS enough to know if he could do it for more than a game or two. I think he'll get a shot to make the team, but I could see him back in Sacramento at the start of next season.

Awesome, didn't realize you were in Sacramento. Yeah, he seems to prefer to go back to 2B but sees the greater likelihood of making the team as a utility player. His bat definitely doesn't profile for 3B or LF, he hits for a good average and OBP, but no pop. Glove not quite good enough to stick at SS. Definitely a super nice guy, though. I'm rooting for him. Mostly I'm looking forward to hitting him up for tickets when the A's play the Yankees.

Wow, I debated between Sanchez and Springer. I didn't have any illusions of him coming back to me, but it sort of makes me question myself that he went with the next pick.

Wes-good stuff on Cardenas.....only story I have like that is I went to college with Jack Armstrong....the former Reds starter who I think pitched in an All Star game. He pitched at Rider back in the early 80's. Complete dick on campus. I assume he transferred before getting drafted....not sure.

Wes, if it makes you feel better, I was planning on taking Cuthbert anyways, so you wouldn't have gotten him.

I was hoping Gose would fall to me... to the point where I was holding off on finishing a post over at FT that talks briefly about him.

I didn't realize how young Gose is until doing research for this draft. Having played all of 2011 in AA and playing well we could see him in MLB by sept. 2012. I really like the improved BB rate he displayed and he's young enough to cut the K's.

I just want to say that I am really impressed w/ the milb draft so far. Folks are making excellent picks and every time I make a tough choice between 2-3 players hoping to catch one of the others on the way back those guys go in the next 2-3 picks.

I am going to be interested in what you guys think of my next pick if he falls to me. And yes this is taking much longer than the MLB draft. lol

Well, this draft is only five rounds, so it doesn't really matter that it's taking longer to me.
