So a 1-year FA or prospect contract is really just a "rest of year" contract?

So a 1-year FA or prospect contract is really just a "rest of year" contract? I thought that prospects drafted in the minor league draft had a $1/6 year contract?

Right, right. So then any 1-year FA contract is a ROS contract, unless picked up in the offseason? And are we allowed to bid on FAs in the offseason?

It is just a rest of season contract.

I think we should keep it consistent for this first draft, no pick trading.

Questions about free agency once our MLB/milb drafts have concluded:
1. Can we bid on/ sign players with no MLB experience to our minor league rosters that went undrafted in the 5 round initial milb draft? If so would their contracts not count against the cap/activate until we call them up?
2. Can we bid on/sign and then assign to our minor league rosters players with MLB experience that are still under the "prospect eligibility" limits of 250AB/100ip? If so would their contracts not count against the cap/activate until we call them up?
3. Can we bid on/sign players with MLB experience over the 250AB/100ip thresholds and assign them to our minor league rosters? If so would their contracts not count against the cap/activate until we call them up?
4. Can we "send down" players that we have drafted/we have under MLB contracts to our minor league rosters? (with their salaries still counting against the cap of course)
5. Did we decide on anything concrete regarding contract extensions? (i.e. the 50% extra for 1 year , 45% extra for 2 etc. etc. plan....)

1. You can bid on them, but they will count against your cap. Only prospects selected in the prospect draft will not count against the cap until they are called up. All other bids will.
2. No you may not. If you bid or sign a player, you are responsible for said player's contract.
3. Once again, their contracts will always count against the salary cap if you bid on them via free agents.
4. I believe Rocky's waiver system allows for a certain number of DFA's from each player. I'll double check on that one.
5. The 50% 1 year rule, 45% 2 seems to be the most viable. That is the system.

Scott, #4- Any player may be demoted regardless of MiLB or MLB contract, but once the player has been demoted more then 3 times (not including the 3rd one) over the life of his contract, every time you demote him, he must clear through waivers. You can promote and demote unlimited times during the off-season, but as soon as the season starts, the 3 time demotion system kicks in.

The size of any teams minor league system is infinite, however, prospects can only be acquired via the draft. (snip) During the course of a season, a manager is allowed to add prospects that have not reached the majors. However, they treated as any other player which means they are not protected under the limits. So which is true?

Both. Prospects added via the draft have the prospect limits where as prospect post-draft are just treated as regular players with no limits.

I don't understand this last explanation. At all. A player bid on and signed via Free Agency, who has not played an MLB game, but is in an MLB farm system, is treated EXACTLY HOW?
I was under the distinct impression, as was Ray, I think, that any player who has not played an MLB game was only available through the prospect draft each year.
